“OUR DEBT TO THE HEROIC MEN AND VALIANT WOMEN IN THE SERVICE OF OUR COUNTRY CAN NEVER BE REPAID. THEY HAVE EARNED OUR UNDYING GRATITUDE. AMERICA WILL NEVER FORGET THEIR SACRIFICES ” PRESIDENT HARRY S TRUMAN
There is something quite extraordinary to see the hundreds and hundreds of flags placed on the YMCA field each Memorial Day. The sea of red, white and blue flags waving in the breeze – each a marker that a family member has placed in honor or remembrance of a beloved veteran. A visit here is definitely an experience that will never be forgotten. I encourage you to stop by, to take moment, and reflect on the magnitude of the service of all of these men and women in order that America remain the “home of the free”!
The Field of Flags is a program of the Colonial Flag Foundation, and is organized locally by the Lake Norman Exchange Club. A special event on May 28, 2018 at 10AM will be held to honor veterans at the field. This moving event will feature patriotic music and a few remarks in celebration of those who have served, or are currently serving in our armed forces. The event will be held rain or shine.
Flags can be purchased in honor of a veteran for $35 each by contacting a member of the Exchange Club or visiting several locations including Four Corners Framing and Gallery in downtown Mooresville or at Oak Ridge Farms Pack and Ship Depot, 1307 Oakridge Farm Highway, Mooresville, or go online mooresvillelknexchange.org. Those purchasing flags may take them home following the ceremony.
