    Welcome to Cornelius!

Just 20 miles north of Charlotte on the shores of Lake Norman lies the city of Cornelius. Enjoying a charming downtown, rich history, gorgeous parks and many waterfront communities, this Mecklenburg County town was originally established as a mill and farm community in 1905.

East of I-77, Old Town Cornelius maintains its original charm despite tremendous development in the area.  It stands as one of Lake Norman’s cultural arts destinations, home to many local shops, artists, small businesses, eclectic restaurants and breweries.  Antiquity, a new 128-acre smart-growth community, offers small town living combined with the day to day city-style conveniences reached by sidewalks connecting the neighborhood to retail.  Bailey’s Glen, an active adult retirement community, features newer custom homes, with nearly any activity that comes to mind also located nearby.

West of I-77 Cornelius rests on the shores of Lake Norman with 70 miles of incredible waterfront property and diverse neighborhoods offering lake access and deeded boat slips. The Peninsula, home to some of the area’s most luxurious properties, covers 11 miles of Lake Norman shoreline.  A Rees Jones designed Golf Course is featured here, with The Peninsula Club offering a private  country club & superior amenities, including a Clubhouse and Swim/Tennis Complex.  The Peninsula Yacht Club nearby is a premier location for lakefront dining, with organized boating and year-round social events.

Home to 10 public parks, Cornelius is sure to have the recreational activities you love.  Jetton Park, one of the area’s most popular destinations, includes 104-acres with lakefront picnic sites, lighted tennis courts, walking trails, sunning beach (no swimming), and playgrounds.

Ramsey Creek Park, offers one of the few public beaches in Mecklenburg County.  This 43.7-acre waterfront park has a swimming beach, boat launch, docks, dog park, fishing pier, picnic shelters, walking trails, volleyball and playground.

The beautiful lakeside setting, top-ranked schools, close proximity to Charlotte and mild weather lend to the laid-back lifestyle of this cheerful community!  Shopping, extensive restaurants and parks make Cornelius is a town that’s hard to beat!
